AI in Italian schools: from DM 166 to the first real deployments
The Italian Ministry of Education guidelines (DM 166/2025) made school principals formal 'deployers' of AI systems, and DM 219 allocated €100 million in PNRR funds — up to €50,000 per school. The studio is working with Italian schools on compliant AI software: didactic tutors with level-differentiated materials, support for personalized learning paths, data that stays in the EU. The real constraint is not technical but governance: every system must be assessable and monitorable by the principal.
Italian schools went from implicit ban to explicit mandate in twelve months. Whoever builds for education must design governance first — deployer accountability, transparency, AI Act — and the feature second. The reverse order does not pass selection.
